Martin and Cameron Galloway are a father and son duo who share both a fascination with the natural world and a certain gift of the gab for trying to explain how it works. Their goal is to try to take stunning pictures (an ongoing learning process) of beautiful wildlife around the world, hoping to instil in others a greater sense of appreciation for the beauty and diversity that is out there as well the need for preservation of these creatures and their habitats.
Martin Galloway has been a biology professor for 30+ years. He has an even longer history as a horticulturist and owner of a plant nursery specializing in herbaceous perennials with an emphasis on native species. He has a even longer history still as an avid naturalist - crazy for being out in the fields and woods since about the age of five and a constant concern for those that feel that he might be a little lost in the magic of nature............or as his son, Cameron, might put it ....... Martin travels around talking to anyone who will listen, like a homeless man with a bus voucher and if he can, will try to follow his son around to try to take credit for his brilliant photos.
Personal Diatribe: "I have been on the planet a lot longer than Cameron and in that time I have been to quite a few places and even taken quite a few photos but it is only recently as an old guy that I have felt able to afford to pursue nature photography in the way that I have always wanted to. I have decided to step up my game and do a better job of documenting nature digitally, partly as an incentive to get out there more often and for longer and deeper exploration, but also out of a desire to tell stories about nature in the hope that some of these stories will inspire others to care for nature a little bit more. Humanity is certainly at a critical crossroad that will determine what kind of planet our future selves and our descendants will inherit. We all need to do a lot more to insure that better choices are made so that the ecosystems that we depend on in so many ways will continue to function and be so exuberant with life." Martin Galloway
Cameron is a biologist with many hobbies. He travels at home and abroad exploring and photographing wildlife and landscapes. He got into photography when he realized that simply seeing the world was not enough, as time passes by, the unique memories slip away. So he now captures what he sees and preserves those memories by way of (hopefully) crystal clear pictures. Cameron is also a very enthusiastic outdoorsman/camper as well as a woodworker and horticulturist.
Personal diatribe: "There are so many beautiful things to see our there in the world and so little time to see them well. After travelling for years without a camera to document the memories I have realized just how unrewarding that can be . Sure, you can move a little faster, your paranoia about looking like a target for theft is down and there is certainly less stuff constantly trying to strangle you while you take in the sights but there is nothing to look back at later and the pool of memories you've created just start evaporating away without something tangible to make them feel real. Photographing wild creatures and the places they call home not only lets us remember them but it also lets us get to know them more intimately in the first place. There's no better way to learn about previously unfamiliar creatures than to look at them down the barrel of a lens and see them eye to eye in their natural habitat. I use to pride myself on how fast I could hike up a mountain to see the view, now I pride myself on how long it takes as I see with new eyes through the viewfinder a have come to appreciate that there are many great views along the way.
